Cheesecakes have been prepared for several centuries across Europe. With several regional adaptations, it's one of the most widely consumed desserts globally!

History

One of the first pieces of evidence of cheesecakes can be traced back to ancient Greece. Food experts say that cheesecakes were served for ancient Olympic participants as early as 776 B.C! These cakes were reportedly made with four ingredients which are flour, wheat, honey, and cheese! The Roman annexation of Greece resulted in cheesecakes being introduced to the Romans as well! In the next few centuries, as the Romans expanded their empire, the dessert was taken to several places in Europe.

Pie or cake?

Some believe that the cheesecakes are actually pies or even tarts as most of them come with multiple layers- a crust, a filling, and sometimes even a topping! The debate whether the cheesecake is a pie, a tart, or a cake is still unsolved. What do you think is it a cake, a tart, or a pie?

Tasty stamps!

American ice-cream brand Haagen-Dazs, in collaboration with the Australian Postal Service, made stamps infused with the flavors of strawberry cheesecake, macadamia nut brittle, and cookies and cream into the adhesive on the back! So when someone licks the stamp to stick it on a parcel or envelope, they get a taste of their favorite flavor!
