Do you know? The place Siachen. I know that there will be many questions coming to your mind. What, where, why? Let me answer all questions. Siachen is a glacier in the Himalayas which marks the border of LOC (Line of control) between India and Pakistan. This is one of the reasons why Siachen is important in India. Siachen is 20,000 ft above sea level. It’s really very cold.

Ranjan Kumar Rathod a soldier had been posted at Siachen a couple of weeks back. He had been in the army for 13 years and had recently taken training at HAWS (High Altitude Warfare School) But nothing was able to prepare him for -60 degree Celsius. He suffered from hallucinations in this harsh weather condition. His mind screamed to get out of here. Here the biggest enemy of the soldier was the extremely cold climatic conditions. The most dangerous was frostbite which occurred in subzero temperature. His closest friend, Faiyaz Ahmed had a life-threatening experience. One day Faiyaz Ahmed removed his gloves for dinner and accidentally he touched a metal spoon with his bare hand, his finger turned yellow pale and started to sting. Within the next 12 hours, his finger turned blue because the tissue had begun to decay. He was airlifted to the hospital and his fingers were amputated. Soldiers had to defrost or break apart the eggs, juices, canned beans, and dairy before they eat.

Ranjan Kumar Rathod wanted to go back home because he missed his family- the muttering of his parents and the chatter of his little daughter. The soldiers got only 2 minutes to call their family, once a week. They huddle around the telephone trying to get some information from the world which they have left behind. One-night Ranjan Kumar Rathod heard a noise Thuddd!!! He stepped out of his tent. He thought what could it be, prowling snow leopards or falling rocks. He laid down on the ground to get a clear resonance. He could hear the heavy footstep coming close to him. He thought it could be a giant living creature. However, he also heard another noise. Bachao!! Help He went to explore the noise.
