The Solar System

 Author : Shaurya Sonawane

I have always imagined how this universe works. I am always fascinated by our solar system. There is so much to know about our solar

There are eight planets in Inthe solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to the Sun in the Solar System. Its orbit around the Sun takes 87.97 Earth days, the shortest of all the planets in the Solar System.

Venus is the second planet from the Sun. It is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. As the brightest natural object in Earth's night sky after the Moon,

Earth, our home planet, is a world unlike any other. The third planet from the sun, Earth is the only place in the known universe confirmed to host life. Earth has one moon. We call it "the moon" because for a long time it was the only one we knew about.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System, being larger than only Mercury. In English, Mars carries the name of the. Mars has two moons. Their names are Phobos and Deimos.

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a mass one-thousandth that of the Sun, but two and a half times that of all the other planets in the Solar System combined. Jupiter has confirmed 79. Some of the moons are Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second-largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter. Saturn has82 moons. Fifty-three moons are confirmed and named and another 29 moons are awaiting confirmation of discovery and official naming.

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. It has the third-largest planetary radius and fourth-largest planetary mass in the Solar System. Uranus has 29 moons, some of them are, Umbriel, Ariel, Miranda, Titania, Oberon.

Neptune is the eighth and farthest-known Solar planet from the sun. In the Solar System, it is the fourth-largest planet by diameter, the third-most-massive planet, and the densest giant planet. It is 17 times the mass of Earth, slightly more massive than its near-twin Uranus. Neptune has 14 known moons, named after lesser sea gods and nymphs from Greek mythology. Some of them are Triton,Nereid,Naiad,Thalassa,Despina,Larissa, Proteus.

Now let's see what are dwarf planets?

Dwarf planets are celestial objects that:

  • orbit a star
  • are roughly spherical
  • often have many other large bodies such as comets asteroids, or other dwarf planets near them

How many dwarf planets are there?

There are five dwarf planets in the solar system:

  • Pluto
  • Eris
  • Ceres
  • Makemake
  • Haumea

Have you ever wondered how many years is our solar system old?

Our solar system is 4.571billion years old, our sun is 4.571billion years old, our earth is 4.543 billion years old isn’t that amazing and interesting.
